This is Robbie, our youngest dog, and he inspired the poem, “Sleeping with Beau”.

I have a dog I love a lot
and he sure loves me too,
so when we go to bed at night,
he sticks to me like glue.
When I am fast asleep, my dog
will cuddle up real tight,
and that begins a struggle that
will last throughout the night.
Because he makes the covers feel
like I’ve been bound by rope,
I’ll dream that I’m a prisoner
who’s given up all hope.
Eventually, I wake with fear,
my nightmare scares me so,
and then I see just where I am,
all cuddled up to Beau.
I try to move that snoring dog —
it’s like he’s made of lead.
I give up soon, too tired to fight,
then dreams fill me with dread!
I dream bad men are after me,
but when I try to run,
my legs feel like they’re made of stone
and like they weigh a ton!
I am so scared, fear wakes me up
to see my snoring dog
lying right across my legs —
it’s like I’m in a bog!
Yes, nightmares nightly are my fate
while my dog Beau does snore,
but daytime is so peaceful that —
by contrast — it’s a bore!
Sounds like sleeping with a dog requires a compromise – but obviously the good outweighs the bad for you!

The poor little baby hogs the bed. I’m assuming you’re thinking of Robbie?

I don’t remember off hand, I’m sorry. My daughter has an 80 pound royal standard poodle who tries all the time to get in bed with her.😂

Robbie is the pup in the picture. 😊 Are you talking about Hey Boy being the poodle?

Yes. Hey Boy is her dog and is devoted to her.

I love the name. It’s inspired. Hey Boy has been a lab in my head.

No, he’s a purebred poodle. He was supposed to be her service dog but some knucklehead at the college grabbed him from behind and gave him a start and now he’s kind of sketchy around men. He had his training vest on and everything. Hey Boy, but the knucklehead needed training more than the dog did. She still puts his vest on him and takes him places and he does really well. His whole attitude changes when she puts the vest on him.
